'Trashy Women' exhibit

Bookplace in Oxford hosts "Trashy Women," an exhibition of artworks made with recycled or repurposed materials, through Nov. 23. Charles Burchfield

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) presents "Exalted Nature: The Real and Fantastic World of Charles Burchfield" through Nov. 16. Burchfield (1893-1967) was a leading American artist, and the exhibition feature more than 50 of his vibrant, imaginative paintings. The museum is open daily. Visit www.brandywine.org.

Mary Ann Weselyk solo show

Longwood Art Gallery (200 E. State St., Kennett Square) is hosting a show of oil paintings by Mary Ann Weselyk through Nov. 30. Weselyk uses saturated, unusual color combinations and patterns in her work. A reception will be held on Nov. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. during the First Friday Art Stroll, with wine, cheese, light fare and live music by Lovell Fergusen. Andrew Wyeth sketches

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) presents "Andrew Wyeth: Lines of Thought," with 23 studies that show his working process, through Feb. 8. The studies were created in preparation for four paintings also on view in the exhibition -- "Faraway" (1952), "Corner of the Woods" (1954), "Roasted Chestnuts" (1956), and "Garret Room" (1962).The museum, on Route 1 in Chadds Ford, is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; $8 for seniors, $6 for students and children ages 6 to 12; free for children under 6 and Brandywine members. Museum admission is free on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon through Nov. 23.

'The Art of the Dog'

The Somerville-Manning Gallery (101 Stone Block Row, Greenville, Del.) presents "Man's Best Friend: The Art of the Dog" throughNov. 15. The show features dog-themed works from the past 100 years, including works by William Glackens, William Zorach, Harry Leith-Ross, William Wegman, Robert Jackson, Alex Kanevsky and Jamie Wyeth. Peter Sculthorpe recent works
