Lawrence stood up for public education

Letter to the Editor:

With Election Day next week, I wanted to take a moment to speak out on our state representative, John Lawrence, and his support for education in this community.  John is a supporter of public education, both traditional district schools and charter schools like Avon Grove Charter School.

For over ten years, Avon Grove Charter has provided parents and students an educational option previously unavailable in our community.  During this time, the district and the charter school have together operated to meet the unique educational needs for thousands of students across Southern Chester County.

Earlier this year, misguided legislation was being pushed in the state legislature that would have had serious financial repercussions on Avon Grove Charter.  Our state representative, John Lawrence, stood up to the leaders in his own party and fought on behalf of our school, even hosting parents and students for a day in the Capitol in Harrisburg.  Due to the efforts of Rep. Lawrence and several of his colleagues, AGCS remains strong for the students and parents of our area, both today and into the future.

A lot of things are said by a lot of different people around election time, but I have seen John Lawrence in action fighting on behalf of students and educational opportunities in this community for several years now.  I encourage you to support him for reelection next Tuesday.
