Upland Country Day School recently hosted a community ice hockey skills clinic coached by guest instructor Chris Bala, a former NHL player and current varsity coach at The Hill School. Bala played four years of varsity hockey at the Hill School before being recruited by Harvard University, where he played from 1997 to 2001. He was selected 58th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, and played in the NHL during the 2001-02 seasons. He returned to his alma mater, The Hill School, in 2007 as an admissions officer and varsity hockey coach. The clinic had 25 youth participants ages 9 to 12 from the Chester County area. Bala worked with them on stick skills, shooting and skating drills. Upland's on-campus rink is home to Upland's teams, as well as the local community through the Chester County Skating Club.
