BURGLARY

Kaufman Gas, at 850 Gap Newport Pike in West Fallowfield Township, was burglarized on Oct. 7 at about 11:30 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Police said someone broke a window and stole a small amount of money before fleeing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

 

DRUG CHARGES

On Sept. 29 at 7:24 p.m., New Garden Township Police saw a car being driven erratically on Hillendale Road. After a traffic stop, the driver, Norberto Colin-Flores, 18, of Toughkenamon, failed to follow police instructions, and there was an odor of marijuana coming from the car. Police found a package containing suspected marijuana in the car. Colin-Flores was charged with drug possession and released pending an appearance at District Court.

DRUG CHARGES AND ASSAULT

On Oct. 3 at 8:13 p.m., New Garden Township Police responded to a report of a man apparently breaking into cars. Police arrived and saw a car without its lights on being driven away. After a traffic stop, police detected an odor of burned marijuana, and the driver, Luis Avalos-Rojas, 20, of Toughkenamon, admitted he had marijuana. A bag and silver pipe were found on him. Passenger Cristofer Barrera, 21, of Landenberg, refused to cooperate with police and struck an officer during a struggle. The officer did not require medical treatment. Investigation revealed that Barrera was loitering near vehicles because he was intoxicated and ill, and was not attempting to break into them. Avalos-Rojas was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and was released pending a court apperance. Barrera was charged with assault, resisting arrest, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was arraigned and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

WEAPONS VIOLATION

On Oct. 4 at 9:51 p.m., New Garden Police responded to the 800 block of Penn Green Road for a report of an intoxicated man who was trying to sell a gun. Police saw a man in the driveway with a beer in his hand. He walked away and refused to stop for police. He ran between two parked vehicles and removed a rifle from his jacket, which he threw under one of the vehicles, and then ran away. He was apprehended by police, who also recovered the .22 caliber rifle, a knife and .22 caliber cartridges. The suspect, Humberto Guzman-Garcia, 31, of Avondale, was arrested for weapons violations, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned and remanded to Chester County Prison after failing to make bail.

DUI

Michael Alan Curran, 20, of West Chester, was arrested for DUI by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale on Oct. 7 after the Acura TL he was driving hit a tractor trailer on Route 1, north of Route 796. He was also charged with recklessly endangering another person.
