Retired Active Persons

The West Grove United Methodist Church (300 N. Guernsey Rd., West Grove) hosts meetings for R.A.P. (Retired Active Persons) for ages 55 and older on the second Friday of each month at the church. On Oct. 10 at noon, "Tuneful" Terri Halvorsen, 76, will sing hymns and country classics. Bring a bag lunch. Drinks and desserts will be provided. For more information, call 610-869-9334.

 

Oct. 11

Turkey dinner

The Second Presbyterian Church (6 Pine St., Oxford) holds its annual buffet-style turkey dinner on Oct. 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $7 for ages 4 to 10. Call 610-932-9256 for tickets.

 

Oct. 17-18

Children's clothing sale

The West Grove United Methodist Church (300 N. Guernsey Rd., West Grove) will hold its children’s clothing and equipment consignment sale on Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. to noon. Included in the sale are children’s clothes, shoes, toys, books, baby items and equipment. On Saturday, many items will be half price. Oct. 18

Church auction

Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church (116 Lancaster Pike, Oxford) will hold an auction on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. There will be household items and collectibles up for bids. Food will be available. The auction is open to the community.

 

Oct. 19

Walk for hunger

The Oxford Area Crop Hunger Walk will be held on Oct. 19, beginning with registration in Oxford Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Groups will walk to benefit local food charities, as well as for Church World Service to respond to national and international emergencies. 'Nurturing Parents'

A "Nurturing Parents" workshop will be held at Grove United Methodist Church (490 W. Boot Rd., north of West Chester) each week from 9 to 10:15 a.m. The free classes are open to all parents of young children. Taught by preschool director Melissa Bechtel and  education director Patti Klotz, each class uses an interactive approach to learning positive parenting practices and philosophies. Buffet breakfast

The Oxford United Methodist Church (Market and Addison streets, Oxford) hosts an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast on Oct. 25 from 7 to 10 a.m. The menu includes buttermilk pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, fruit, sausage and bacon, roasted potatoes, sausage gravy and specialty breads. Oct. 25

'Trunk or Treat'

All children up to and including second grade are invited to the annual “Trunk or Treat” free event at Grove United Methodist Church (490 W. Boot Rd., north of West Chester) on Oct. 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. The event takes place in the parking lot, where cars with decorated trunks will be set up with treats for children. Other children’s activities are available. For more information, visit www.grovechurch.org.

 

Oct. 29

Joseph's People

Joseph's People, a support group for unemployed residents, will be held Oct. 29 at 6:45 p.m. in the Parish Life Center of ABVM's Church (300 State Rd., West Grove). The guest speaker will be Robin Briggs of CCI Advisors, who will discuss the Affordable Care Act or ACA (Obamacare). The meeting also discusses community resources and job opportunities, and encourages member interaction and support. Visit www.josephspeople.org.
