CAMP BURGLARIZED

Someone smashed the back window of a building at Camp Horseshoe in West Nottingham Township and stole a Dell computer and video projector overnight on Aug. 3, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Anyone with information is asked to call trooper Matthew Schatzmann at 610-268-2022.

CAR VANDALIZED

On Aug. 18, Pennsylvania State Police Avondale were called to 300 Exelon Way in Kennett Township for a report of a vandalized car. The hood of a 2014 Tesla had been sprayed with foam insulation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

STALKING BY PHONE

A 51-year-old woman from Kennett Square reported that, while she was at Snap Fitness in Kennett Square, John Patrick Sheppard, 45, of Kennett Square, found her phone and looked through it without her consent. Later, she got anonymous, flirtatious text messages from Sheppard. She blocked his number and called police. Sheppard was charged with stalking. Anyone who has experienced similar incidents with Sheppard, or in connection with Snap Fitness, is asked to call trooper Sperazza at 610-268-2022 or 610-268-5640.

BURGLARY

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale are investigating a burglary that occurred at 1713 New London Road in Franklin Township on Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. Police say a man lured the homeowner out of her home as a distraction while another man entered her house and stole what police describe as "precious metal items." The two then fled in a white sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call trooper Dan Wetzel at 610-268-2022.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

An argument between an Avondale man and his girlfriend escalated on Aug. 3, and ended with an arrest. Pennsylvania State Police Avondale reported that Marcos Mercado-Lopez, 22, of Avondale, argued at a party with his 19-year-old girlfriend. The argument escalated when they returned home, and Mercado-Lopez reportedly slapped his girlfriend several times, pushed her down the stairs and chased her to her car. She drove away, but he followed her to the Avondale Wawa, where he rammed his car into hers. Mercado-Lopez then returned to his apartment, where he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

CAR STOLEN

A car was stolen from a home at 163 Rosehill Ave., West Grove, overnight on Aug. 17, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. The car had been locked. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

ASSAULT CHARGES

Casey Macklin Megargee, 27, of Cochranville, was arrested for simple assault by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale on Aug. 22 after he struck a 66-year-old man in the face and caused injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police charged Jeffrey Pierce, 26, of New London Township, with simple assault on Aug. 12 at 9 p.m. Police reported that Pierce struck and choked a 25-year-old Kennet Township woman, causing bruises and red marks. He was taken into custody. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

DRUG CHARGES

A 16-year-old boy from Oxford was arrested for possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and fleeing police on Aug. 23. Pennsylvania State Police Avondale reported that the teen fled, but was caught at 11 p.m. at 29 Morningmist Lane in East Nottingham Township. Charges were also filed against Walter Matthew Logan, 19, of Kennett Square, for possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being in possession of alcohol.

CHILD STRUCK

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale reported that a 6-year-old girl from West Grove was struck by a pickup truck in a parking lot at 304 E. Baltimore Pike in London Grove Township on Aug. 28. The girl sustained what police are calling a "major injury" in the accident, in which driver Jose Bedolla-Guzman, 43, of Kennett Square, was backing out of a parking space and struck the child. She was taken to A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Del. Bedolla-Guzman was charged with careless driving. The incident remains under investigation.

INJURIES IN CRASH

Two drivers sustained moderate injuries in an Aug. 11 crash, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Police said Tanya Dunkle was drving a 2001 Toyota Camry south on Scroggy Road in Lower Oxford Township, and Donald Henderson was driving a 1995 Ford F150 pickup north. Dunkle's car crossed the double yellow line and struck the pickup. Dunkle was trapped in her car and had to be freed by fire personnel. Both drivers were taken to hospitals.

PHONE STOLEN

Two men worked together to steal a phone from the Verizon Wireless store on Route 1 in East Marlborough Township on Aug. 6, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Police said that the two men entered the store just before 7 p.m. to ask about buying a phone. One of them left to start their car while the second man stole a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone while the salesman was distracted. They drove away in a dark blue, four-door sedan.

PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS

Kennett Square police cited John Carey, 61, of Kennett Square, for public drunkenness twice in the same evening on Aug. 6. At 5:11 p.m., Carey was cited in the 300 block of East South Street and released at his residence. He was again cited at 7:56 p.m. in the 100 block of West South Street. He was released again at his residence.

DUI

New Garden Township police arrested Jose Garcia-Vazquez, 27, of Avondale for DUI on Aug. 5 after a traffic stop. At 10:24 p.m., police saw a car driving eastbound on Baltimore Pike with no taillights or registration lamp. After pulling thecar over, they found that Garcia-Vazquez showed signs of impairment and he failed a preliminary breath test. He was taken into custody for suspicion on DUI and later released pending a summons from District Court.

New Garden Township police charged an 18-year-old Avondale woman with DUI on Aug. 6. At 11:53 p.m., an officer saw a vehicle make a left turn onto Bucktoe Road without using a turn signal. The car then stopped at the intersection with Sharp Road with its hazard lights on. The officer found that the driver, Anna Birmingham, 18, of Avondale, and a juvenile passenger smelled of alcohol, but both denied drinking. Breath tests were administered to both, and they showed levels of alcohol consumption that were above the limit for those under 21. Birmingham was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. She was processed and released pending an appearance at District Court.  The juvenile passenger was released to a parent pending filing of a citation for underage drinking. 

On Aug. 9 at 11:08 p.m., New Garden Township police saw that a vehicle had pulled off of the roadway in a vacant lot in the 9100 block of Gap Newport Pike. The driver, Angel Herrera, 31, of Toughkenamon, was unable to stand when exiting the vehicle and had to lean on the car for support. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. He was released pending an appearance at District Court.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested David Cupples, 38, of West Grove, on Aug. 14 after he was pulled over for a violation of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and he was found to be DUI.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Jose Manuel Ramirez-Reyes, 33, of New Castle, Del., after he was involved in a two-car crash on Aug. 2 at 4 a.m. at Route 41 and Sixth Street in Avondale. Police investigating the crash determined he was DUI.

Glenn Sheldon Hershey, 55, of West Grove, was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale on Aug. 16 when his car was stopped for an equipment violation and Hershey was found to be DUI.

Brandon Marquis Chambers, 19, of Wilmington, Del., was stopped by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale for running a stop sign at Cossart and Stockford roads in Pennsbury Township on Aug. 25 at 11:49 p.m. Police discovered he was under the influence of marijuana and arrested him for DUI. He as also charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

A DUI checkpoint conducted by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale overnight on Aug. 30 resulted in the arrest of Patrick Seth High, 24, of Lancaster County, for DUI alcohol. The checkpoint was at Route 41 and Glen Willow Road in London Grove. Also arrested at the checkpoint was Robert Ciabattoni, 31, of Wilmington, Del., who was arrested for DUI of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Kennett Square police arrested Michael Blevins, 58, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic stop at Cope Road and South Walnut Street on Aug. 5 at 8:16 p.m. He was released at his residence pending a summons from district court.

Kennett Square police arrested Joseph Mastrippolito, 54, of Coatesville, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 600 block of West State Street on Aug. 13 at 11:38 p.m. He was released pending a summons from district court.

Steven Raimondo, 29, of Kennett Square, was arrested for DUI by Kennett Square police after he was involved in a traffic accident at South Union and East Mulberry streets on Aug. 18 at 8:57 p.m. He was released to a relative pending a summons from district court.
