The Brandywine River Museum of Art has announced its "First Sundays for Families," a series of free workshops that focus on art in the museum's collection.

Registration is not required to participate, and there is no limit on the number of family members you may bring. The programs are suited for all ages. The schedule includes:

Art All Around

Sunday, Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to noon

Free admission from 9:30 a.m. to noon

Lines on the street, texture in the trees, patterns on your shirt – art is all around us. Join a morning of art-making and explore the elements of art and principles of design in innovative ways. Afterward,  visit the galleries and see how many art elements you can find in the collection.

Nature's Inspiration

Sunday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to noon

Free admission from 9:30 a.m. to noon

The natural world can be awe-inspiring. Explore the exhibition “Exalted Nature: The Real and Fantastic World of Charles E. Burchfield,” find inspiration in the landscape, and create art projects during this workshop.

Pirate Adventure Day

Sunday, Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to noon

Free admission from 9:30 a.m. to noon

Create pirate-themed crafts, participate in a rope-tying demonstration led by Pirates of the Northern Star, hunt for art treasures in the museum, and hear tales of adventure presented by Hedgerow Theatre.
