E. Marlborough's myopic supervisors
The Chester County Press has learned that East Marlborough Township was invited to join Kennett Borough, Kennett Township and New Garden Township to discuss a regional police force under the auspices of a state agency.
East Marlborough supervisors and majordomo Jane Laslo -- who is the township manager but really the de facto sixth supervisor -- declined to even discuss the matter.
East Marlborough presently has a police department with one chief and one officer that works out of a trailer on the site of the township building.
East Marlborough has more than 7,500 residents and just had to add a third voting precinct. It is contiguous to Kennett and New Garden townships and a stone's throw from Kennett Square Borough. There can be no question that the present situation does not come close to 24/7 police protection, so the East Marlborough Police Department is in name only and cannot possibly provide police protection at any given location or time of day.
The East Marlborough supervisors must have their heads in the sand to decline to even discuss the possibility of a regional police force. Supervisors Hannum, Caudill, Weer and newcomer John Sarro are not representing the interests of their constituents. Moreover, East Marlborough Township supervisors are chaired by Cuyler H. Walker, who is the Republican candidate for the State House for Chris Ross' 158th District. It is hard to believe that an individual who folded his hands on this issue has any chance of being a force in Harrisburg.
Uncle Irvin lives in East Marlborough Township, and the only thing that resembles police protection I have ever seen comes from Penn's New Bolton security force. I have never seen an East Marlborough police car!
The citizens of East Marlborough are being badly governed on this issue when their elected supervisors won't even talk about a regional force that fits like a glove with the other townships and Kennett Square Borough.
