Oxford Area High School students Davin Axelsson and Eddie Diaz were honored as Oxford Rotary Club Seniors of the Month.

Davin, son of Sherrie and Jon Axelsson, played varsity baseball for three years as a first baseman and outfielder, and won five games as a pitcher. He wrestled on the varsity team in his junior and senior years, earning the team’s Lionheart Award in his senior year.

As a member of the high school’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, Davin attended the Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Conference held in April in Hershey, competing in the Spreadsheet Applications after earning first place in the region in that category. At the state level he finished sixth, with scores separated by percentage points.

Davin represents Oxford as a delegate to the Chester County Student Forum sponsored by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, which meets monthly to research and discuss issues of importance to area students. For the past two summers he has logged 100 hours as a volunteer at Jennersville Regional Hospital, in the transport unit.

Last summer, Davin also volunteered as a counselor at Camp Geronimo, located at Springbrook Farm in West Chester, where he worked with mentally disabled children and children with cancer. This fall Davin will attend Penn State’s main campus to study engineering.

Eddie, whose guardians are Florimar and Oscar Rosado, came to the high school shortly after relocating from Puerto Rico. Unable to speak English before arriving in Oxford, he is now fluent in the language.

As a member of the Interact Club sponsored by the Oxford Rotary Club, Eddie helped organize a project where bracelets created by residents of a village in Nicaragua were sold at the high school with the proceeds sent back to the artists. He also attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a leadership development program which includes presentations, activities, and workshops on a variety of topics.

Eddie is member of the high school’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, and with the Helping Hands Community Service Club he shoveled snow for elderly residents of Oxford each winter.

As a member of the high school’s LEOs Club, Eddie served as liaison to the Oxford Lions Club and helped organize a dance-a-thon in his junior year which raised $2,300 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As a senior he helped organize a Movie Night for Cystic Fibrosis held at the high school on May 23.

Eddie was a four-year member of the cross-country team, running with the varsity for the past two years and serving as captain in his senior year. A talented artist, he created several murals for the high school hallways prior to this school year.

This fall Eddie will attend Temple University where he plans to major in either biology or engineering.
