Oxford Area High School senior Cearra Townsend, daughter of Vincent Giroso and Shannon Townsend, is the Oxford Area School District high school level recipient of Keystone Federal Credit Union’s seventh annual Shining Star Award. Keystone established this program to honor students who have shown a noticeable improvement in academic performance, extracurricular involvement, attendance and classroom conduct throughout the school year.

“Cearra is one of those students who I have had the pleasure of witnessing grow immensely over the past four years,” said guidance counselor Mary Humphreys, who nominated Cearra for the award. “However, regardless of how much she has grown personally over the years, she has always stood out as an individual who would do anything for another human being. She has an enormous heart and this is evident in all my interactions with her. She is the type of person who would drop everything to help another.”

Cearra was presented with the Shining Star award and a $200 share certificate of deposit at Keystone Federal Credit Union. Humphreys received a $200 gift certificate to purchase educational supplies.

After graduation, Cearra will attend Delaware County Community College to study for a career in early childhood education, working with disabled children.

“From the moment I met Cearra I saw a smart, loving, caring, beautiful young woman who grew those qualities each year,” said Humphreys. “I truly believe that she has come into her own this year and is discovering who she is and wants to be.”
