Nottingham Elementary School fourth grade students were recently treated to a rock, mineral and fossil show by field paleontologists Michael and Roberta Straka, of Bushkill, Pa. During their curriculum-based presentation, the Strakas gave an outline of geology and the sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic processes of rock formation. They also explained how minerals are identified and formed. A highlight of the show was “Mr. Nixon,” an eight-foot Triceratops skull discovered when the Strakas were on a field expedition in 1996. The Strakas also hosted a “Dinosaur Game Show” with two teams of student contestants. The Strakas are pictured alongside Mr. Nixon with students, from left, Sara Dougherty, Amy Honaker, Zachary Rafferty, Ben Smith, Lily Sapp and Brendan Friel.
