After last week's rains, the Penn Township Community Park needed some extra love. Fortunately, the Jennersville YMCA Teen Leader's Club was there to help. On May 3, members of the club and their parents helped with mulching and planting trees in the park.

Elicia Bollenbach, the camp and youth director for the Jennserville YMCA, helped organize the Community Clean Up Day with Karen Versuk from Penn Township.

“We purchased six Christmas trees to put up around the park that will add to our bank of trees that can be decorated by the community at Christmas time for our holiday events,” Versuk said.

On May 6, the Teen Leader’s Club will return to the park to finish planting the trees.

The park cleanup is only the latest volunteering event for the club. At Christmas, the club made and delivered ornaments for residents of Jenner’s Pond who were unable to go out and purchase ornaments themselves. For Valentine’s Day, the residents of Jenner’s Pond and those at the Jennersville Hospital received extra love in the form of handmade cards from the teens. The team also made and mailed cancer survivor bracelets for survivors through the American Cancer Society, and to two of the team members who have cancer.
