New doctor joins Southern Chester County Family Practice Associates

Chester County Hospital recently announced that Karen Baird, MD is joining the Southern Chester County Family Practice Associates.

Dr. Baird grew up in southeast Arizona. She attended Hollins University in Virginia where she majored in history and art history. After college, she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where she worked as a special events coordinator for a local, UNC-affiliated, hospital. It was during that job that she decided to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a physician.

She obtained her MD at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She continued her post-doctorate training at MCV where she completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Baird is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

For the past five years, she practiced at Lewis Gale Medical Center, an HCA facility, in Salem, Virginia where she served on the Board of Trustees for the hospital. While in Salem, she was also named "Top Doctor" by the Roanoker Magazine and "Best Bedside Manner" by Our Health Magazine. She recently relocated to Kennett Square to be with her husband.

Dr. Baird's professional interests include management of high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol disorders. She has a special interest in cardiovascular health and is a proponent of preventative health care, especially with regards to cardiovascular fitness, nutrition, and weight management. Personally she enjoys spending time with her two sons, cycling on a tandem road bike with her husband, gardening, and cooking.

She is a fan of Virginia Tech football and Virginia Commonwealth University basketball.
