CALL FOR HELP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

On April 5 at midnight, New Garden Township police responded to the 900 block of West Baltimore Pike for a report of keys locked in a running vehicle. Police saw a plastic bag of marijuana on the front passenger seat. The driver, Luis Gutierrez-Ortiz, 22, admitted that the marijuana was his. Drug paraphernalia was also found in the car. Gutierrez-Ortiz was taken into custody on drug charges, and released to another department for an oustanding warrant.

INTOXICATED CUSTOMER LEADS TO ALARM

On April 6 at 1:30 a.m., New Garden Police responded to a silent alarm in the 300 block of Scarlett Road. Employees there told police thay had pulled the alarm due to an intoxicated customer who refused to leave. The man, Modesto Bernal, 51, of Toughkenamon, was found walking in the center of Scarlett Road. He was taken into custody and driven to his home. He will be charged with public drukenness.

BURGLARY

Kennett Square police reported that a business in the 200 block of East State Street was burglarized between 4:52 and 5:02 a.m. on March 28. The cash register and more than $100 were stolen.

GUN CHARGES

Kennett Square police received a phone call on April 8 at 8:30 p.m., asking them to check on the welfare of a family member, Robert Pfeifle, 30, of Kennett Square. Officers could not find Pfeifle at his home, but learned later that Pennsylvania State Police had taken him into custody at about 11:30 p.m. that night. Kennett Square police were told that Pfeifle might have a stolen .38-caliber revolver at his home. They searched the home and found the gun. Pfeifle was charged with receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by persons prohibited. He had a prior drug conviction on his record. He was arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

BURGLARY ARREST

Kennett Township police responded to a home in the 300 block of Elizabeth Drive on April 9 at about 3:30 p.m. after getting a 911 report of a suspicious condition. Police saw Robert Timothy Pfeifle, 32, on the second floor deck of the home, smashing the glass of the rear patio door with a brick. He was taken into custody and charged with felony burglary, criminal trespass and related crimes. He was arraigned and committed to Chester County Prison after failing to post $25,000 cash bail. 

DRUG CHARGES

New Garden Police saw a car pull off of the road and block the southbound lane of Newark Road near the Route 1 southbound ramp on April 6 at 3:49 p.m. The driver put on the hazard lights and got out, and police turned on emergency lights on their squad car to alert traffic to the stopped car. Police saw a clear plastic wrapper with suspected heroin in the cup holder. The driver, William Roy, 23, of Bear, Del., and passenger Roy Kirchner, 24, also of Bear, were arrested after police found 11 new bags of heroin in a cigarette pack, several used wrappers, three needles, a spoon, a shoelace and a glass pipe with crack cocaine residue inside it. Several loose pieces of crack cocaine were also found on the passenger side floor. Roy and Kirchner were arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bond.

THREATS AND ASSAULT

Kennett Square police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Kennett Square for two counts of making terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault, two counts of possessing instruments of crime and two counts of harassment after an incident on March 25 between 2:30 and 3 p.m. in the 100 block of North Broad Street. Victims told police that the boy threatened them with knives, pushed them and made threatening remarks. He was referred to Juvenile Probation on the charges.

DUI

On March 28, Eric Cabrera-Contreras was arrested by Oxford police and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana and driving without a license. 

On March 30, Nicholas Purtell was arrested by Oxford police for DUI and traffic violations.

Kennett Square police arrested Earl Randolph, 55, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 600 block of Linden Circle on March 23 at 12:58 a.m. He was released at his residence pending a summons from District Court.
