Nature photographer visits Jordan Bank School

Nature photographer Kathy Miller recently visited the kindergartners at Jordan Bank Elementary School to talk with them about her popular photo books, “Chippy Chipmunk Parties in the Garden” and “Chippy Chipmunk: Babies in the Garden.” For her first book, “Chippy Parties in the Garden,” Miller spent two years photographing and observing the titular chipmunk whenever he visited the garden at her home in New Ringgold, Pa. Miller’s assembly included photographs and videos of Chippy and his family as well as the many species of birds that also visit the garden, a listening activity where students could identify birds by their distinct sounds, and tips to help the students begin taking nature photographs as a hobby. Miller is pictured with reading teacher Diane Harris while autographing books for students Jacob Essick and Claire Livingston.
