The Oxford Area High School Student Council and Student Renaissance Committee recently held a breakfast to recognize the school’s Students of the Month for February. Each month teachers in a specific department nominate a freshman, sophomore or junior student for this honor, with the final six selections made by the school administration.

Students of the Month are chosen based on criteria including demonstrating an effort and desire to learn; involvement in school and classroom activities; respect for all school policies and personnel; concern for the school community and friendliness and support for other students. The following students were recognized as Students of the Month for February:

Destiny Butler, freshman: Destiny’s favorite subject is Spanish. After graduation she would like to attend college to study for a career as a therapist or social services professional. She said of being named Student of the Month, “It is very exciting and I hope to make a greater impact during my time at OAHS.” 

Efren Cuevas, freshman: Efren’s favorite subjects are English as a Second Language, math and physical education. In his spare time he likes to complete as much class work as possible. After graduation, Efren would like to study to be a mechanic. “The thing I enjoy most about Oxford is that I have the opportunity to learn a new language with people that help me all the time,” he said. 

Briana Moore, sophomore: Briana’s favorite subjects are art and English. After graduation she would like to attend art school to study animation or character design. “Art is something that I love and feel very passionately about,” she said. 

Sarah Clark, junior: When she is not babysitting, Sarah enjoys watching movies, reading and playing on her computer, and she even does household chores without being told. After graduation she would like to study for a career as a veterinary assistant.

Elyza Higgins, junior: Elyza’s favorite subject is math and she works after school at Neuchatel Chocolates. After graduation she would like to major in Spanish and French in college, and her choices include the University of California, Los Angeles and Liberty University.

Maddy Robinson, junior: Maddy’s favorite subjects are English and civics and she enjoys reading, painting and volleyball. After graduation she would like to attend college to study international relations, with a concentration on the Middle East. Her schools of interest include American and Old Dominion universities and the College of William & Mary.
