YMCA to celebrate Healthy Kids Day

04/02/2014 10:14AM ● By Acl

On April 26, area YMCAs will celebrate Healthy Kids Day.

The day will feature free events throughout the community to inspire kids to keep their minds and bodies active. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the YMCA of the Brandywine Valley and YMCA of the Upper Main Line Y branches will feature games, healthy snacks, arts and crafts, fitness and/or dance demonstrations, and more to motivate families to develop a healthy routine at home.

Healthy Kids Day is the a national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being. The aim is to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer long – a critical out-of-school time for kids’ health. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically. Kids also gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year.

The Brandywine YMCA in Coatesville will host their events on the fields behind the Y. The Jennersville YMCA will celebrate the day in Downtown Oxford on South Third Street, between Market and Hodgson streets. The Kennett Area YMCA will head to downtown Kennett Square on Broad Street, between Cypress and Mulberry streets.
