"Evening of the Arts"

While Kennett Square has regularly promoted downtown businesses and artists with its monthly First Friday events, it seems like an obvious choice to do some promotions focusing exclusively on the huge number of artists in the region.

That's the idea behind "Evening of the Arts," which will be held on April 4 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Genesis HealthCare Building in Kennett Square (101 E. State St.).

The evening event takes place during prime after-work hours, and offers delicious foods from local restaurants if you're a little hungry. Local wines from Flickerwood and beers from Victory Brewing will also be served.

The low-pressure gallery experience will unite buyers with the artists themselves, who will exhibit original works and meet visitors. On the list of more than 30 participants are highly regarded artists Bill Basciani, Neilson Carlin, Anna Bellenger, potter Dave Eldreth, Lele Galer, Rhoda Kahler, Mitch Lyons, Jeremy McGirl, Susan Myers, Mimi Peterson, Matthew Reinert, Jeff Schaller, Sandra Severson, and sculptor Stan Smokler.

"Evening of Art" will be a great chance to discover some artists you might not have known about, as well as an evening to meet people like Schaller, a Downingtown-based artist whose pop-art inspired paintings have a national reputation.

While there will be a lot of art packed into the Genesis building, there are other galleries a short walk away, such as Artworks and Metal Works, the Centre for Vibrant Living, Longwood Gallery and Maia Galleria, so visitors can make a whole night of art browsing.

Admission is by donation at the door, and all proceeds benefit Historic Kennett Square, a non-profit organization which works to put on other events in Kennett and draw visitors to the borough.
