Avon Grove music students honored

Six Avon Grove High School band students qualified for the PMEA Region VI Band Festival recently: Savanna Morrison, Marcus Forst, Nick Wood, Tom Wehrle, Matt McCutchen, and Ethan Phillips.

The students auditioned and were selected from among the best high-school musicians in Delaware, Philadelphia, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks counties. Participants in the Region VI Band Festival spent three days learning from composer and conductor Richard Saucedo from March 13 to 15, and the band performed the world premiere of Saucedo's composition, "Barbaro," at the final concert performance on March 15. The festival was held at Unionville High School in Kennett Square.

These students also participated in the PMEA District 12 Band Festival held Feb. 6 to 8 at Henderson High School in West Chester, along with Avon Grove students Haley Cowan and Mary Maule.

Avon Grove High School students Marcus Forst and Savanna Morrison were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Orchestra, and student Nick Wood was selected to participate in the All-State Wind Ensemble.

The All-State Orchestra and Concert Band performance was held March 29 in Harrisburg.  The All-State Wind Ensemble and Chorus performance was also held March 29. 

These three students, along with Matt McCutchen, participated in the PMEA Region VI Orchestra Festival held Feb. 27 to March 1 at William Tennent High School in Warminster, Pa.

Forst, Morrison, Wood, McCutchen and Haley Cowan participated in the PMEA District 12 Orchestra Festival held Jan. 23-25 at Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown.

Two Avon Grove High School choral students participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 12 Chorus held Jan. 9 to 11 at Phoenixville High School. Katie Dinsmore and Ted Flower competed against choral musicians from Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties to qualify to sing in the festival.
