Red Clay Valley Clean Up in search of volunteers

03/19/2014 01:31PM ● By Acl

The 26th Annual Red Clay Valley Clean Up, which will be held on Saturday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, is in need of volunteers to clean approximately 70 miles of stream and road ways along the east and west branches of the Red Clay Creek, including Kennett Square Borough going south through Yorklyn and Hockessin, and ending at Kirkwood Highway.

The event will co-sponsored by the Red Clay Valley Association (RCVA) and the Delaware Nature Society (DNS), with additional support from the Kennett Area Park Authority, United Water Delaware, Wild Birds Unlimited, WSFS, Delaware State Sen. Greg Lavelle and others.

Over 700 volunteers participated in 2013, and collected more than 13 tons of trash. Volunteers will be asked to assemble at the Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square, the Kennett Area YMCA’s outdoor pool or at the Ashland Nature Center in Hockessin. After check-in and refreshments, volunteers disperse to assigned areas along the clean up route. Necessary materials such as gloves, bags and reflective safety vests will be provided. Large groups are encouraged to contact the RCVA  at 610-793-1090, or the DNS at 302-239-2334, and register prior to March 29.
