CAR BREAK-IN

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale reported that the rear window of a car parked at the YMCA in Penn Township was smashed on the morning of Feb. 20, and a purse containing several credit cards was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

TERRORISTIC THREATS

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Mark Clark Howe, 56, of West Chester, on Feb. 25 after he threatened to shoot a 57-year-old West Chester woman in the mouth during an argument. The two were arguing at a home at 460 Locust Grove Rd. in Pocopson Township. Howe was committed to Chester County Prison pending a hearing.

PHONE SCAM

Kennett Square police reported that on Feb. 3, a resident from the 200 block of Ridge Avenue got a phone call telling them that they had won several prizes from Publishers Clearing House, including a car and cash. The resident was told to buy a GreenDot money card for $500 to cover the legal costs of the prizes and call back for a an access code. Police advise that this is a scam. 

CAR WINDOW BROKEN

The rear window of a 2006 Nissan Quest was broken while it was parked on Ways Lane in Kennett Township on Feb. 23 between 3 and 8 a.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Damage was estimated at $400.

TIRES PUNCTURED

Sometime between Jan. 10 and 31, several tires were punctured on vehicles parked in a lot in the 100 block of South Walnut Street, according to Kennett Square police.

CHASE ENDS IN ARREST

Kennett Square police arrested Manuel Lopez, 23, of Toughkenamon, after a brief vehicle pursuit and foot chase on the morning of Jan. 21. The incident began at West Cypress and Meredith streets. Police also arrested Angel Cruz, 53, of Toughkenamon, for giving false reports to law enforcement after he reported the vehicle that Lopez was driving was stolen.

DRUG CHARGES

Kennett Square police arrested a 16-year-old boy and Hernan Camacho-Lopez, 19, both of Kenett Square, on Feb. 5 in the 500 block of Center Street. They were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Camacho-Lopez was released pending a summons from district court. The juvenile was referred to juvenile probation and was released to a parent.

Kennett Square police arrested Vincent Falco, 20, of Avondale, for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop in the 600 block of East Cypress Street on Jan. 31. He was released to a friend pending a summons from district court.

DUI

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Christopher Raymond Nelms, 34, of Toughkenamon, for DUI on Feb. 14 at McFarlan and Yorktown roads in Kennett Township. A preliminary hearing is pending.

Ron Pownall, 47, of East Nottingham Township, was charged with DUI, resisting arrest and traffic violations on Feb. 14 after his car slid into a snow bank in the 1800 block of Twin House Road in East Nottingham Township. 

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Michelle Ann Dell, 37, of Chadds Ford, after a two-vehicle crash on Feb. 16 on Burnt Mill Road, west of Spring Mill Road, in Kennett Township.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Hector Alvarez-Morales, 44, of Oxford, for DUI on Feb. 20 at midnight in Oxford Borough. 

Nathaniel Richard Payne, 24, of Kennett Square, was arrested for DUI by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale on Feb. 26 after a traffic stop on Kaolin Road, east of Sheehan Road, in New Garden Township.

Kennett Square police arrested Dagmar Dunn, 47, of Wilmington, Del., for DUI after a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Union Street on Feb. 3. He was released to a friend pending a summons from district court.

Kennett Square police arrested Edwin Perez-Lima, 26, of Kennett Square, for DUI after two traffic accidents, one at West Cypress and Meredith streets and one at East Cypress and Race streets, on Jan. 30. He was released at his residence pending a summons from district court.

New Garden Township police arrested William Welsh, 40, of Elizabethtown on Feb. 18 after the car he was driving was observed by police attempting to pass a tractor-trailer on Gap Newport Pike. He denied drinking but showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. He was released pending a summons from district court for DUI charges and traffic offenses.

New Garden Township police attempted to pull over a car that was speeding at Ellicott and Cooper roads on Feb. 21, but the driver continued into the 100 block of Ellicott Road. After stopping, the driver jumped into the rear passenger seat of the car. The driver, Alberto Marquez III of Avondale, was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and released pending a summons from district court for DUI charges and traffic offenses.

On Feb. 22 at 12:40 a.m., New Garden police tried to stop a car that had run a red light at Gap Newport Pike and Penn Green Road, almost striking the police cruiser. The car reversed and turned left on Penn Green Road, where a traffic stop was attempted. The driver lost control and spun the vehicle around, facing the police vehicle. The driver then backed up into a snowbank. The driver, Fredy Flores-Ayllon, 20, of Avondale, got out of the car while passenger Isaac Flores-Ortiz, 24, of Avondale was seen throwing containers of alcohol over a fence behind the car. Both men were taken into custody and released pending a summons from district court for DUI and related offenses.

On Feb. 23, a New Garden Township police officer saw a vehicle partially blocking the southbound lane of Chambers Road. After a traffic stop, the driver, Nicolas Martinez, 27, of Kennett Square, showed signs of being intoxicated, and there were empty beer cans on the passenger side floor. He was charged with DUI and released pending a court appearance. Police were contacted the following day by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers who said that Martinez had previously been arrested for DUI under the name Ricardo, and had a warrant for failure to appear. He was arraigned and taken to Chester County Prison after failing to post $15,000 bail.
