Julia Baumel, a Kennett High School senior representing the Newport Rowing Club, took second place in her division in the Indoor Rowing World Championship, held on Feb. 16 at the Agganis Arena on the Boston University campus.

In the competition, participants row the equivalent of 2,000 meters on indoor rowing machines. Baumel finished with a time of 7 minutes 25.8 seconds to place second in the Under 23 Lightweight Women’s Division.

After graduation, Baumel will continue her academic and rowing career at Harvard University.

The Newport Rowing Club, founded in 2010, is Delaware’s most competitive youth rowing organization. It has sent rowers to national championships for the last three years. For more information, visit www.newportrowingclub.org.
