Nearly 260 people jumped into the Brandywine Creek on Feb. 8 to raise money for the Brandywine Valley Association.

More than 700 people braved frigid wind-chill factors to attend Brandywine Valley Association’s 7th Annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, and together raised more than $16,000 for the watershed organization.
Nearly 260 people plunged into the icy Brandywine Creek to help BVA promote awareness of  watershed conservation.

The crowd gathered by a bonfire as the temperature stood at 34 degrees. They stayed warm with hot chili and danced to music provided by local DJ Del Bittle until they disrobed to take the plunge.

Golden Plunger Awards went to Michael J. Kelly of West Chester, who raised $540; and Widener University’s Kappa Sigma Fraternity Team, who raised nearly $2,000 as a group. Best costume went to Jay Tracy in a Scottish kilt. The award for largest group plunging went to Widener University’s Kappa Sigma Fraternity, with a record 54 members who took the plunge.
