The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is the nation’s largest provider of free tax assistance and return preparation services with over 35,000 volunteers at more than 6,000 sites who helped over 2.6 million taxpayers in 2013. The program is aimed at low-to-moderate income taxpayers with special attention to those age 60 and over, but is open to taxpayers of all ages and income. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use these services. 

The Tax-Aide program provides this free, confidential face-to-face assistance at senior centers, community centers, libraries and other convenient locations. Volunteers are trained and certified in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service to prepare personal income tax returns that provide taxpayers with the maximum allowable credits and other benefits. Volunteers must stay within scope of the training and taxpayers with complex tax returns may be advised to seek paid tax assistance.
