Veteran musician Paul Cullen has found an appetizing way to combine his three primary passions – music, food and wine -- and the result is a “cooking concert.” 

On Feb. 23, Cullen, who is best known as the bassist for Bad Company, brings his “Tune Your Palate” cooking demonstration to the Kennett Flash in Kennett Square. The evening, presented by Frank’s Wine of Wilmington, Del., will showcase the Italian cuisine that Cullen’s grandmother, Elsie Tagliaferro, served Cullen when he was growing up in Buffalo, N.Y.

The audience will get to taste the creations, along with the region-specific wines that Cullen selected. He’ll also play Mediterranean-style music on the guitar. “It’s a relaxing, social time – very different from a traditional cooking class,” said Cullen, who’s working on a cookbook featuring Italian recipes.

The class, which starts at 6 p.m., is $50 per person. For an extra $25, guests can also enjoy a VIP caviar and wine tasting which starts at 5 p.m. The caviar is supplied by Carter Caviar, a company owned by Kennett Square resident Lucinda “Cindy” van Putten.

A professional musician for more than 30 years, Cullen has released three solo CDs, each featuring a “Latin jazzy feel that pairs perfectly with any wine in your glass,” said Cullen, who lives in coastal Sussex County in Delaware. In addition to leading the popular cooking classes, which often feature an Old World approach to making gnocchi and pasta, Cullen performs throughout the mid-Atlantic area. He is also the co-founder of Eating Rehoboth and Eating Lewes, walking food tours of two coastal Delaware resort towns.
