Gwen Smoker, the branch manager of Citadel Bank, has been elected president of the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce. Her one-year term will run through Dec. 31, 2014.

“I am honored to serve on the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as president to help promote the interests of the entire business community in the Oxford area,” Smoker said. “The Oxford Area Chamber has been instrumental in strengthening and growing the economy of the Oxford area.  The economic vitality of the area is essential for building opportunities for area residents.”

Smoker joined Citadel’s Thorndale office in June 1993 and has managed the Oxford office since its opening in May 2012. She has served as a member of the Oxford Area Chamber Board since November 2012.

“We are proud to have Gwen join the Chamber’s Board of Directors as president,” said Janis Walker, executive director. “As one of Chester County’s largest employers and growing important economic engines, Citadel plays a vital role in the Oxford area’s economic development. Gwen brings a wealth of experience and public service spirit to the table, and we expect her work on the board will benefit and enrich not just the chamber, but the Oxford area as a whole.”

The Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to the promotion of local business and industry through programs, services, and networking opportunities, designed to assist members in their success. The chamber is led by a volunteer board of directors. The president is responsible for the management and operation of the chamber organization and its staff. The board of directors develops and directs a program giving businesses and the community the greatest opportunity for growth and prosperity.
