Oxford Area High School senior Mary Williams, daughter of Shirley and Michael Williams, is the school’s recipient of the Chester County Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award. Mary is one of nine county high school students who will be honored by the chapter at a ceremony in March.

The DAR Good Citizenship Award is presented to one student selected by his or her school’s staff based on the qualities of dependability (which includes personality, loyalty and punctuality), service (which includes cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others), leadership (which includes personality, self-control and willingness to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation.)

Mary is president of Student Council and a member of the choral ensemble and chorus, for which she also serves as president. She is vice-president of the high school chapter of National Honor Society and secretary of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Mary is a member of the Spanish Honor Society and a four-year member of the Helping Hands Community Service Club. She has played varsity soccer for four years and was team captain in her senior year.

For the past four years Mary has volunteered as coach of the seventh and eighth grade CYO volleyball team at Sacred Heart Church, and for the past five years has been a co-captain of the church’s youth team in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Mary recently achieved an AP Scholar designation, which is granted to students who achieve scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. After graduation she plans to attend West Chester University to study mathematics education, with a career goal of becoming a high school math teacher.
