Groundbreaking for youth center's new home

The Lighthouse Youth Center board members met on Jan. 12 to commemorate 25 years of serving the Oxford community and to announce plans to begin construction of its new facility. The Lighthouse purchased four acres of land at 245 Commerce Street in June of 2013. Funds raised through Project Blessing will allow for the construction of an 11,000-square-foot building. The new facility will offer a commercial kitchen and cafeteria, computer and homework help room, two gymnasiums and outdoor recreation fields. The facility is expected to serve more than 500 Oxford children each year. An open house will be held to celebrate the project’s expected completion in the fall of 2014.
