Two Kennett Square police officers were awarded commendations by the Chester County Chiefs of Police Association at a luncheon at the Downingtown Country Club on Jan. 8.

Cpl. Richard E. Bell received a commendation for saving the life of a 13-year-old boy on July 7, 2013. Bell responded to a call that a teenager was in cardiac arrest and started using CPR to revive the child's heartbeat and breathing. Medics then arrived and the child was transported to the A.I. DuPont Hospital in Wilmington, Del. for treatment.

Det. Oscar Rosado received a commendation for an investigation of a person dealing prescription painkillers, specifically oxycodone, out of the home. This investigation began in July 2013, and Rosado arranged drug purchases using undercover operatives. He also spent numerous hours on surveillance of the residence. The dealer was subsequently arrested and eventually entered a guilty plea for the crimes. Under state law, the tools used and the benefits gained from these crimes are subject to forfeiture. The drug dealer lost the home after it was forfeited to the county.
