A 19-year-old man from Oxford was killed on Dec. 17 in a robbery gone wrong, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale.
A police report issued on Dec. 19 said that Anthony Michael Rody Welhaf, 19, was found dead in the roadway at Oxford Road and Duck Farm Lane in East Nottingham Township on Dec. 17 at 7:25 p.m. He had been struck and crushed by a truck, which had fled the scene.
After investigation, police discovered that Welhaf had met three young men who were interested in buying something from him. The police report did not specify what that was. The three intended to rob the victim, not buy anything. As the three drove away from the scene of the robbery, Welhaf grabbed the vehicle while trying to get his merchandise back, but fell under the truck.
Police have charged Benjamin Deasey, 19, of Cochranville, along with two 16-year-old boys from Oxford. They face charges including robbery and involuntary manslaughter.
