Cuyler Walker, the chairman of the East Marlborough Township Board of Supervisors, made it official on Dec. 16 and announced that he will be seeking the Republican nomination for the 158th District.

The move, rumored for weeks, will put Walker on the path to succeed State Rep. Chris Ross, who announced in November that he would not seek a 10th term.

“It would be an honor to serve the citizens of the 158th State House District, and I will campaign vigorously for their votes,” Walker said in a statement. “Having been a resident of our community my entire life, I have a strong record of public service locally and at the state and federal levels. I believe that this background, paired with my private sector experience, both as an attorney and small business owner, has prepared me well to serve as our next State Representative.”

Walker lives in East Marlborough Township, and his family has roots going back several generations in Unionville. He has been on the board of supervisors for 16 years, and has chaired the board for the past eight years. He is an attorney at the Pepper Hamilton law firm, and specializes in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and securities law. He has worked in the Pennsylvania Governor's office, the U.S. Department of Justice and the United Nations before joining Pepper Hamilton in 1993.

Although no official announcement has been made, Walker is expected to be challenged by township resident Roger Howard for the Republican nomination. Howard was defeated by Sen. Dominic Pileggi in 2012 for the nomination in the Ninth District. If Walker prevails in May 2014, he will probably face Susan Rzucidlo of New Garden, a Democrat, who anounced in November that she would be running for the 158th District position.
