Oxford Area High School students Jacob Abrams and Rachel Boohar were honored as Oxford Rotary Club Seniors of the Month for November.

Jacob, son of Kerri and Jesse Abrams, is a member of National Honor Society and a three-year member of Future Business Leaders of America and the Helping Hands Community Service Club, in which he serves as executive chairman of Helping Paws, whose members volunteer at area animal shelters.

Jacob is a member of the senior chorus and choral ensemble. He will have a featured role in the musical production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to be presented at the high school in March.

Jacob played football in his freshman year and ran cross-country as a sophomore. For the past four years he has played for several travel baseball teams, most recently with the Avon Grove Junior American Legion team.

Jacob is an enthusiastic member of the Delmarva chapter of Chrysalis, a non-denominational, world-wide Christian organization that uses retreats, gatherings and small groups to help youth grow in their faith. He attended his first retreat, or “flight,” as a sophomore and since then has been a volunteer counselor each summer.

Jacob’s college choices include Penn State, the University of Pittsburgh and West Chester University. While he has not yet decided on a major, he is interested in veterinary medicine, business administration and sports marketing.

Rachel, daughter of Mary and Charles Boohar, is a two-year member of National Honor Society and Student Council and is president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She is also president of the French Honor Society and vice-president of the French Club.

Rachel has played soccer since she was five years old and was a starting goalkeeper for the West Chester United travel team for six years. She was the starting goaltender for the high school’s varsity soccer team for four years, earning Second Team All Ches-Mont League honors as a freshman and First Team honors from her sophomore to senior years.

Rachel was named team MVP from her freshman to senior seasons. For her career, she is second all-time in Pennsylvania with 1,082 saves. As a junior Rachel played on the varsity football team as a placekicker.

Rachel began singing in her church choir and joined the high school chorus her freshman year. As a sophomore she was selected for the choral ensemble and appeared in the cast of “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying.” This past spring she played Snow White in the musical production of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and in March she will play the lead role of the narrator in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

After graduation Rachel hopes to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, in New London, Conn., to study naval architecture and marine engineering and continue playing soccer. She attended the academy’s summer seminar and is hoping for an appointment after the first of the year.
