Ballet company slates 'Charlie Brown Christmas'

Ballet 180 will be staging a new ballet version of the animated classic, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” as part of West Chester’s Old Fashioned Christmas celebration on Dec. 7 at 4 and 7 p.m. Performances will be at Fugett Middle School (500 Ellis Ln., West Chester).

The 1965 “A Charlie Brown Christmas” has holiday music by jazz musician and songwriter Vince Guaraldi. Honoring the contemporary style of Ballet 180, the production takes on a fluid, jazzy style that brings to life the upbeat, jazzy tempos from the original score.

“As dancers, we are inspired by music. Vince Guaraldi’s holiday music is so cheerful and fun that you can’t help but smile. The familiar songs immediately inspire ideas for choreography and make you want to get up and dance,” said artistic director Kelly Murray.

Ballet 180 (formerly 180 Dance Company) was founded in 2009 by Kelly Murray. The company performs original works through staged productions, and has performed with regional and international artists through participation in the Philadelphia Dance Collective, the FringeArts Festival, Philly’s Got Talent, and the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA).

In July of 2013, Ballet 180 was established as an independent, non-profit organization, and the company established its official school, Studio 180.

Tickets are  available at www.180dance.org, or by calling 484-639-9571. Admission is $30 for adults, and $20 for students and seniors. Group rates for 10 or more are available.
