Oxford Area High School students Sarah Graff and Hannah McComsey were honored as Oxford Rotary Club Seniors of the Month for October.

Sarah, daughter of Chris and Jim Graff, is captain of the high school’s first team in the Chester County Academic Competition and a member of the yearbook staff. She is drum major in the marching band as well as band president, and the “weather girl” for the school’s morning news broadcast.

Sarah will serve as stage manager for the musical production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to be presented at the high school in March. She has participated in the high school’s independent study program since her sophomore year and is currently working on projects in pre-calculus and library science. She recently earned AP Scholar designation, granted to students who achieve scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

For three years, Sarah has been a member of the Girls’ Advisory Board of the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls, which is responsible for the allocation of $25,000 annually to non-profit programs that have a positive impact on low-income women and girls. Past funding recipients include the Chester County Food Band and The Garage in Kennett Square.

Sarah would like to study history and computer science in college and her choices include Elizabethtown College, Washington College, American University and West Chester University. She would eventually like to earn a master’s of library science and work at the Library of Congress.

Hannah, daughter of Leah and Robert McComsey, serves as student representative on the Oxford Area Board of School Directors. She is a member of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, the Helping Hands community service club and the LEOs Club of Lions International.

Hannah recently completed her second year as a member of the varsity volleyball team. She has been a staff member of WOHS since her freshman year and serves as a news anchor and producer.

In the summer of 2011 Hannah participated in Rotary International’s Short-Term Youth Exchange program, living with a host family in Spain. She told club members that the experience changed her life, teaching her many things about our world and herself, and helping her achieve fluency in Spanish.

This past summer Hannah and fellow seniors Jackie DiGiacomo and Brianne Roper attended the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California. The team qualified for the national conference when the video they created placed second in the Digital Video Production competition at the Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Conference last spring.

As a junior, Hannah was one of two Oxford students to participate in the Newstudies program sponsored by KYW Newsradio and CBS3 TV. The four-week program is designed to give high school juniors and seniors a firsthand look at the inner workings of a broadcast news operation through interaction with anchors, reporters, editors, and station managers. As a final project, Hannah and fellow program participant Kim Coterwas were each required to research, write and record a story about their school or community for broadcast on KYW Newsradio.

The Newstudies program helped to solidify Hannah’s decision to study broadcast communications in college. Her choices include Temple, Syracuse and Duke Universities and the University of South Carolina.
