Daniels wins seat on U-CF School Board

The Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board, which has been unsettled since Oct. 21 by the sudden resignation of board member Holly Manzone, saw the re-election of two candidates who were running unopposed for their seats.

Current board members Jeff Hellrung and Keith Knauss received 912 votes and 887 votes, respectively, and will retain their positions on the school board. There were 59 write-in votes registered.

New members elected to the Unionville-Chadds Ford board from Region B are Steven Simonson, with 1,097 votes, and Michael Rock, with 1,089 votes. There were 15 write-in votes registered.

In the only contested race for the school board, in Region C, Democrat Leticia Flores lost to Republican challenger Carolyn Daniels. When votes were combined in Chester County and Delaware County, Daniels emerged with 1,016 votes, and DeWilde had 866 votes.

Daniels, who got the endorsement of the Chadds Ford Republican Party in September, graduated from the University of Delaware. She has worked in corporate communications for Dun and Bradstreet and Dean Witter, and in corporarate financial services business development with Wilmington Trust. She and her husband have four children – three sons at Unionville High School, and a daughter, who is attending Catholic University inf Washington, D.C.

She has volunteered in the district for 15 years, and is in her fourth year on the Unionville-Chadds Ford curriculum council and   her second year as the vice-president of the Unionville High School PTO. She has lived in Chadds Ford for 20 years.

She says she hopes to “maintain the excellent education that our district schools are known for while being mindful of residents' resources when making the decisions that best serve the needs of the students and the community.”
