Re-elect Hicks as East Marlborough Township supervisor

10/29/2013 08:13PM ● By Acl

Letter to the Editor:

Richard Hicks has served as East Marlborough Township supervisor since 2000. During that time he has served with distinction. He is a longtime resident of our township and his roots are in the land. His bias is toward preservation. His focus has always been on making decisions for the common good, using his knowledge of zoning, responsible land development and the Municipal Planning Code as his guiding principles.

Hicks is also an active participant in both the Chester County Association of Township Officials, where he is currently in his second term as president, and, at the state level, in the Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors, where he serves on the Legislative Committee.

Mysteriously, in internal politics reminiscent of recent Tea Party maneuvers, the local Republican Party did not endorse Hicks for re-election.  He will, however, appear as a Democrat on the Nov. 5 ballot, as a result of write-in votes received in the May primary.

Township supervisor is not a place, in my view, for party politics. This is a role where we should be electing the best, most qualified person. Richard Hicks meets these criteria. I recommend his re-election as East Marlborough Township supervisor on Nov. 5.
