10/23/2013 02:54PM ● By Acl

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new walking trail will take place at Herb Pennock Park on Monday, Oct. 28th at 5pm.  Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board (KAPRB) is opening the new walking trail at Herb Pennock Park, 275 West South Street in Kennett Square.  All community members and local businesses are invited to attend. The new eight-foot wide trail will serve as a connector to the network of trails currently being constructed in the Kennett area by Kennett Trails Alliance. The network of trails, referred to as the Red Clay Greenway, will be installed throughout the Kennett community and will allow community members to run, walk, or bike from the townships to the borough and vice versa.  Families will greatly enjoy the new trail around the perimeter of the Park.  Local residents can reach the fields from sidewalks that connect the borough to the park.

In 2007, the Borough of Kennett Square named KAPRB as the organization to manage Herb Pennock Park located on South Street in Kennett Square.   Under the management of KAPRB the park has undergone many renovations which include the installation of new energy saving Musco lighting systems for the lower, upper and auxiliary fields; new infield and outfield fencing for the lower and upper fields; new dugouts for the upper and lower fields; internal and external renovations and improvements to the snack shed;  new front entrance sign & landscaping; new commercial playground system; improvements to the lower and upper field bleachers; new storage shed; addition of landscaping shrubs & trees to help with overall beautification; installation of a new irrigation system for lower and upper infields; excavation and installation of new upper outfield; increased the size of the parking lot along with adding a new stone surface and a newly paved front entrance.

More projects and enhancements to the Park are planned.  All renovations at Herb Pennock Park have been completed with donations from local businesses and through grants from Kennett Township, Kennett Borough, PA State Grants, Kennett Run Charities Grant, The Mushroom Festival Grant, E. Kneale Dockstader Grant.  KAPRB is dedicated to working to continuing to make improvements at Herb Pennock Park, and the Board would like to thank all organizations that have helped with the renovation projects.
