A child's birthday party became the scene of a stabbing on the night of Oct. 5, resulting in the arrest of two members of the Sur-13 gang.

A report from New Garden Police said that a home in the 100 block of Thompson Road in Kennett Square was the scene of a large party for a child on Oct. 5 when police were called to the scene at 10 p.m. for a report of a large fight. Police found approximately 80 people in a parking lot, and a 29-year-old man lying on the ground who was being treated by witnesses for two stab wounds to his abdomen and back.

Witnesses told police that several uninvited guests had shown up at the party and were flashing gang hand signs. The party host asked them to leave. Shortly afterward, Emmanuel Renteria and Guillermo Renteria-Enciso, both of West Grove, were seen outside, shouting at the crowd. Two gunshots were heard, and  Renteria-Enciso was seen pointing a handgun at the group and pulling the trigger.

Police later learned that the victim thought he had been punched by Renteria, who is also known as "Criminal." The victim said he also saw Renteria-Enciso, known as "Terrorist," fire a handgun twice into the ground.  The victim then discovered that he had been stabbed.

Investigators were called to the scene, and the Chester County Detectives Office also assisted in the investigation.

On Oct. 8 at 6 a.m., both defendants were taken into custody without incident at their residence in West Grove. Renteria, 25, was taken to Chester County Prison for unrelated criminal warrants, and additional charges are expected.  Renteria-Enciso, 26, was charged and arraigned on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, five counts of simple assault, five counts of recklessly endangering, and five counts of terroristic threatening. He was arraigned by the District Justice and taken to Chester County Prison in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.

Both men are confirmed members of the local branch of the Sur-13 gang.

New Garden Police are asking witnesses to contact them on the anonymous tip line (610-268-2907, ext. 222).
