The Oxford Run, the Whisker Walk, and the Oxford Presbyterian Church's Apple Festival are all returning this Saturday, Sept. 28, for one of the busiest days on the calendar in Oxford.

The day of family-friendly activities begins with the Oxford Run, which includes a 5K run, walk, and dash. The event has been gaining popularity each year and is one of downtown Oxford’s largest annual happenings. For those who like to include their four-legged friends in their walks or runs, the Whisker Walk returns for its fifth year, starting at 9 a.m. The one-mile walk begins and ends at Oxford Feed & Lumber.

Just a short distance from the Oxford Run and Whisker Walk activities, the Oxford Presbyterian Church will host its annual Apple Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Apple Festival includes crafts, food, music, and art for the entire family. It takes place in the Oxford Memorial Park.

For the 12th year of the Oxford Run, new USA Track & Field-certified courses have been designed for runners and walkers.

According to Sue Cole, the executive director of Oxford Mainstreet, Inc. (OMI), the new courses will be marked and colored with spray paint to help participants stay on the new course through downtown Oxford. The start and finish lines for the race have also been adjusted so that both are in front of ATI Physical Therapy.

OMI and ATI Physical Therapy are partners for the event, and ATI Physical Therapy will once again open its facility for the event with staff members helping with registration.

Prizes will be handed out to the top female and male winners, including three-month family memberships that are donated by the Jennersville YMCA.

Cole said that they have upgraded the t-shirts that are distributed for the race, changing from cotton t-shirts to A4 Cooling Performance t-shirts that are preferred by runners.

This year's event is made possible by 36 sponsors, which is a record number for the Oxford Run.

The proceeds from the event go toward revitalization efforts of Oxford's business district. It gets applied to programs that include supporting existing businesses, recruiting new businesses, landscaping, and presenting a host of family-friendly events throughout the year.

Registration for the Oxford Run is possible until 8:45 a.m. on Saturday. Registration is at ATI Physical Therapy at 206 S. Third St. The run and walk begin at 9 a.m. The whisker walk also begins at 9 a.m. at Oxford Feed & Lumber.
