The Hadley Memorial Fund is pleased to present a free concert by the Copeland String Quartet on Sunday, October 6, at 3 p.m. at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church. Members of the quartet are Eliezer Gutman, violin, Thomas Jackson, violin, Nina Cottman, viola, and Mark Ward, cello. All play with many local symphonies in the area. They will be playing works by Mendelssohn and Dvořák.
First formed in 2003 because of their shared passion for the repertoire for the string quartet, they played their first concert at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Del. as part of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra's Champagne Chamber Series. Their debut piece was the Brahms String Quartet No. 1. Their next concert was at Westminster Presbyterian Church. More concerts followed as part of the Delaware Symphony Chamber Series. The quartet was asked to play a concert at the Church of the Holy City in Wilmington to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Following that concert, the church, with its heavenly acoustics for chamber music, became home for a series of four free concerts. The series is made possible by the sponsorship of art patron Tatiana Copeland. To thank Copeland for her enthusiastic support, the quartet called themselves the Copeland String Quartet. The quartet is particularly pleased to have a sponsored series, now in its fourth season, at the Church of the Holy City, in Wilmington, Del.
The Copeland String Quartet has enjoyed playing chamber concerts in many locations. They have also enjoyed invitations to play at nearby universities, colleges, and at several local fundraising events, including the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation Gala, Wilmington First Night and a Meals on Wheels fundraiser at ING Headquarters.
All Hadley programs are free and open to the public. The church is handicapped accessible. For more information please contact : www.Hadleyfund.org, or 610-444-1855.
