At its June 20 meeting, the Oxford Area Board of School Directors unanimously appointed William Vogt as principal of Nottingham School.

Vogt joined the Oxford Area School District as Nottingham's assistant principal in November 2012 and succeeds Dr. Anthony Georeno, who had served as Nottingham's interim principal since February 2012. He began his new duties as principal on July 1.

Vogt brings to Oxford over 14 years of educational experience as an elementary teacher, middle school math and gifted teacher, high school and college athletic coach, assistant athletic director, and high school SLC (Small Learning Community) coordinator. Prior to joining Oxford, Vogt most recently taught fourth grade in the School District of Lancaster, where he continued to distinguish himself as a goal-oriented, data-driven educator capable of modifying instructional practices that directly contributed to his students achieving high levels of proficiency on both district and state assessments.

Having worked successfully in urban, rural and suburban school communities and on all three public education levels, Vogt is uniquely qualified to identify the essential components of a successful K-12 educational experience and through best practices, and to serve all students, parents and members of the Oxford Area School District community.

"It is a privilege and an honor to serve the Oxford Area School District as the principal of Nottingham School," Vogt said. "I openly embrace the opportunity to work collaboratively with everyone in this tradition-rich community for the purpose of providing the very best educational opportunities for all children attending Nottingham.

"I am certain that by working together toward common goals and maintaining a positive thought process, anything can be achieved. This is a very exciting time to be in the Oxford Area School District and I am thrilled to be here and contribute to the educational program."

Vogt spent much of his professional career leading numerous school-wide programs that resulted in strengthening the relationships between the school, home and the community. He brought this same mindset to Nottingham School, where he worked with teachers, parents and administrators to initiate the school's first Kids Walk for the Cure event, which raised $14,573 for the  Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. 

The two-week campaign culminated on May 9 when all classrooms spent part of the afternoon walking around the Oxford Area High School track to help raise awareness of Type I diabetes and to support classmates who have been diagnosed with this form of diabetes.

Vogt earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from West Chester University and a master's degree in education from Millersville University. He completed course work for his K-12 principal certification through California University of Pennsylvania.

Vogt currently resides in Lititz, Pa., with his wife and their 8-year-old son.
