Dr. Malcolm H. Kelly introduces MacuHealth eye supplements

Dr. Malcolm H. Kelly, the optometrist at Oxford Family Eyecare located at 49 South 2nd Street in Oxford, announced that he is now able to offer his patients MacuHealth with LMZ3, a remarkable supplement prescribed for Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of late onset visual impairment and legal blindness in the Western world among people over the age of 50. The macula, which protects us from the sun's harmful blue light, is made up of three protective carotenoids; Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Meso-zeaxanthin. These protective carotenoids diminish as we age, leaving the retina vulnerable to the damaging effects of blue light which can lead to Age Related Macular Degeneration and, if left untreated, the eventual loss of central vision.

"There is no cure for AMD, so early screening to determine which of my patients are at risk and regular

monitoring of high-risk patients is my focus,” said Kelly. “I accomplish this with the latest in screening technology, the macular densitometer. Screening facilitates early intervention with Macular Pigment Replacement Therapy to possibly prevent the onset of Dry Age Related Macular Degeneration and slow down or stop the progression in those already afflicted with the disease. MacuHealth is the supplement of choice in my practice to help reduce risk and preserve vision. With later diagnosis, intervention for AMD may be less effective so early screening is critical."
