La Comunidad Hispana gets $82,693 federal grant

La Comunidad Hispana in Kennett Square was notified last week that the organization has received $82,693 in supplemental federal funding for outreach and enrollment into affordable health insurance coverage.

“The funding will help us meet our goal of increasing services to our community,” said Margarita Mirkil, president and CEO of LCH. “We are committed to reaching those in need of medical and social assistance. This grant will greatly aid our mission.”

The grant was given to facilitate and increase enrollment of eligible health center patients and service area residents into affordable health insurance coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace, Medicaid, and CHIP.

The grant was made by the United States Department of Health and Human Services through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). According to HRSA, LCH is one of 40 health centers in Pennsylvania that served 671,139 patients last year. Almost 27 percent of the patients were HRSA made 38 awards in Pennsylvania totaling $4,196,333. The awards are expected to produce 76 additional workers and assist 74,886 people to receive affordable health insurance coverage.
