SCRAP METAL THEFT

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale reported that a chain was stolen from the 400 block of Scroggy Road in Nottingham on June 20 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARIES

Someone tried to break into a home in the 1900 block of Barren Road in Elk Township on June 20 at 9:40 a.m., according to a report from Pennsyvlania State Police Avondale. Someone tried to pry open a basement window in the home. Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Revels at 610-268-2022.

Pennsylvania State Police reported that someone removed a window screen and tried to break into a home in the 200 block of Deepdale Road in Kennett Square on June 10 sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

BURGLARIES

A home at 667 W. Avondale Rd., New London, was burglarized on June 19 sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 12:20 p.m., according to Pennsyvlania State Police Avondale. Jewelry and a large number of sneakers were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

Kennett Square police reported that a home in the 700 block of Hornblende Avenue was burglarized between June 14 and 15. Taken in the burglary were two Glock handguns, a Smith & Wesson revolver, cash, jewelry and checkbooks. On June 23, acting on a tip, police recovered one of the Glock handguns. The investigation is continuing.

HEROIN OVERDOSE

Pennsylvania State Police reported that on June 15 at about 12:20 p.m., someone was reported to be in cardiac arrest at Avondale Presbyterian Church, at 520 Pennsylvania Ave., Avondale. Police determined that Nicholas Otriz, 30, of Allentown, Pa., had suffered a reaction to heroin. He and Nicole Marie Mulski, 20, of Hockessin, Del., were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

THEFT AND DRUG CHARGES

On June 10, Kennett Square police arrested Tammy Johnson, 27, of Kennett Square, on 23 counts of theft by deception, two counts of harassment, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Unable to post bail of 10 percent of $15,000, she was taken to Chester County Prison.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale said that Christopher Mathers, 39, of Nottingham, was injured on June 19 when a car in front of his 1996 Harley-Davidson suddenly stopped at railroad tracks on Lenape Road, north of Pocopson Road. The motorcycle flipped and Mathers was thrown to the ground. Mathers suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Jennersville Hospital. The car fled the scene.

TIRES VANDALIZED

Kennett Square police reported that a car parked in the 400 block of South Broad Street had its tires punctured overnight on June 11.

PHONE SCAM

Kennett Square police are alerting residents to a phone scam. Police were contacted by a resident of the 400 block of West Sickle Street on June 7, who said that they got a phone call from a man claiming to be a police officer in the Dominican Republic. He said the Dominican police had the resident's granddaughter in custody and that $1,700 should be sent by Western Union so the granddaughter could be released. The resident called the granddaughter, who said she was fine and had never been to the Dominican Republic. No money was sent. Kennett Square police say that such calls are scams.

BURGLARIES

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale are investigating a burglary that occurred on June 7 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at a home in the 900 block of Street Road in Oxford. Someone broke into the home and stole costume jewelry and a man's ring valued at $2,000.

A home in the 200 block of Camp Bonsul Road in Elk Township was entered through an unlocked garage door between June 10 and 11, and tools were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police Avondale at 610-268-2022.

A home at 11 Echo Valley Drive in East Nottingham was burglarized on June 10, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Someone took several knives from the residence before fleeing. The burglary happened at about 2:15 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

A home at 115 E. Ruddy Creek Circle in Oxford was the target of a burglar on June 18 at 1:45 a.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. A police report says that the burglar entered the home and was looking around when a 45-year-old woman in the home heard noise and started to turn the lights on in the house, causing the would-be thief to flee. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

ID THEFT

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale are investigating a case of identity theft in Kennett Square. Someone used the victim's information to open several credit lines and make more than $30,000 in purchases from several locations in New York and Connecticut. One of the suspects is described as a heavyset woman with long, black hair who has been using a Pennsylvania driver's license with the victim's information. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-268-2022.

DOGS LOOSE

Kennett Square police cited Colleen Gartner, 42, of Kennett Square, for violating ordinances prohibiting pets from running loose after it was reported that her dog chased several people in the area of Southview and Hornblende avenues on June 4 at 8:47 p.m.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Two juveniles were taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale after they allegedly kicked the passenger door of a car belonging to Pao Pha, 28, of Media, while he was parked at the Octorara Reservoir to fish on June 6. The door was damaged. A 14-year-old boy from Landenberg and a 16-year-old boy from West Grove were charged.

LICENSE PLATES STOLEN

A license plate was stolen from a vehicle at a home at 398 W. Ridge Rd. in Nottingham sometime between June 4 and 9, according to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale. Anothe license plate was stolen from a home at 565 Lees Bridge Rd., Nottingham, between June 6 and 9, according to police.

THEFT FROM WALMART

Christina Huynh, 19, of Oxford, was charged in connection with three thefts of cash from the Walmart store in Oxford. According to Pennsylvania State Police Avondale, the cash drawer was short on three occasions while Huynh was working there. An audit was performed, and she was seen on surveillance video taking cash from the register. She admitted to stealing. Charges have been filed at District Court.

SINK STOLEN

Sometime between 1 and 3 p.m. on June 6, a cast-iron double sink was stolen from the back yard of a home in the 200 block of South Union Street, according to Kennett Square police.

STOLEN CAR RECOVERED

A 1995 Honda Civic reported stolen on May 24 from the 100 block of West Maple Alley in Kennett Square was recovered by Delaware State Police on May 26 at the routes 1 and 40 intersection in Delaware. The investigation is continuing.

WINDOW SMASHED

Someone used a rock to smash a window at Norwood Construction, at 455 Woodview Rd., West Grove,  between May 22 and 30, according toe Pennsylvania State Police Avondale.

HIT & RUN

Kennett Square police arrested David Perez-Romero, 28, of Avondale, on May 24 in connection with a hit-and-run accident that occurred on May 8 at 5:50 p.m. at North Mill Road and West Sickle Street.

Kennett Square police arrested Modesto Bernal-Castaneda, 24, of Toughkenamon, on May 31 after he left the scene of an accident at East Cypress and South Broad streets on May 27 at 4:44 p.m.

STOLEN CAR CRASHED

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale investigated a one-car crash on June 13 at 9:47 p.m. in which a 2011 Ford Escape left Oaks Road in East Nottingham Township, went up an embankment, returned to the road, failed to stop at a stop sign at Oaks and West Oaks roads, and struck a tree. Police found no driver at the scene and determined that the car had been reported stolen from a home in Oxford.

ASSAULT

Matthew Anglim, 24, of Springfield, Pa., was arrested by Kennett Square police on two counts of simple assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person after an incident that occurred on May 27 at 11:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Hazel Avenue.

SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT

Pennsylvania State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 896 just south of Good Hope Road in London Britain Township on June 15 beginning at 11 p.m. and ending at 3 a.m. on June 16. They made 106 vehicle stops, resulting in six DUI arrests, two drug arrests, one underage drinking arrest, nine summary traffic offenses and 12 written warnings.

DUI

Kennett Square police arrested Miguel Sierra-Hernandez, 36, of Avondale, for DUI after a traffic stop on June 1 at 1:33 a.m. in the 100 block of West Cypress Street. He was released at his home pending a summons from District Court.

Two Maryland men are facing drug charges after a traffic stop by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale on May 27. According to police, Ahmed Shalom Hooper, Jr., 24, of Pikesville, Md., was arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop at 1:36 a.m. on Route 1, north of Route 52. Also charged was Eric Lee Forte, Jr., 24, of Pikesville, Md., who was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Mandolin Paige Wunder, 19, of Newark, Del., for DUI and possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop on May 24 on Stricklersville Road at Durham Drive in London Britain Township. Also arrested was Jennifer Nicole Tricarico, 18, of Newark, Del., for drug possession and tampering with evidence.

Kennett Square police arrested Patrick Manley, 21, of Landenberg, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 100 block of Center Street on May 25 at 12:54 a.m. He was released to a family member pending a summons from District Court. Also cited for underage drinking were his passengers, Chris Macrory, 18, of West Grove; and John Manley, 19, and Michael Mayen, 18, both of Landenberg. They were released to a friend.

David Miller, 45, of Holtwood, Pa., was arrested for DUI by Pennsylvania State Police Avondale after he backed his car into a parked car at the Wawa at 761 Gap-Newport Pike on May 3. No injuries were reported.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Matthew Justin Scott, 18, of Kennett Square, for DUI on May 26 after a traffic stop on Route 1 at West Baltimore Pike in East Marlborough Township.

Pennsylvania State Police Avondale arrested Rigoberto Lopez Lopez, 29, of Avondale, for DUI after a traffic stop on May 29 on Penn Green Road at Baltimore Pike in New Garden Township.

Kennett Square police arrested Eligio Zavala-Romero, 44, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic accident on June 4 in the 400 block of East South Street. He was released at his home pending a summons from District Court.

A Pennsylvania State Police Avondale officer investigating a car that was stopped and still running on Route 896 in Franklin Township on June 20 at 2:21 a.m. discovered that the driver, Julie Lynn Sylvina, 30, of Lincoln University, was passed out behind the steering wheel. She was accused of DUI and arrested.

Kennett Square police arrested Felipe Diego-Quintana, 37, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 400 block of East South Street on June 9. He was released at his residence pending a summons from District Court.

Kennett Square police arrested Albert Rochester, 57, of Kennett Square, for DUI after a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Broad Street on June 15. He was released pending a summons from District Court.
