The Southern Chester County Soccer Association launched its first summer session on June 19, and children of all ages came out to the Tito Lino Fields to participate.

Inflatables and vendors were present at the event. Horizon Services Inc. was holding a raffle, with the winner getting soccer gear signed by Philadelphia Union players. Player Michael Farfan, No. 21, plays mid-field for the Philadelphia Union. He was at the event to sign autographs and take pictures with the young players.

The players broke up into groups, according to age. Each age group split into teams. Since this was an evening for kids to just enjoy playing soccer, there were no coaches instructing.

“We do it once a week, on Wednesday nights, all through the summer. This is the kickoff,” said Southern Chester County Soccer Association travel vice president Michael Humes. “Since we already have a relationship with the Union, we thought it would be a great night to have them come out and do some fun stuff before we actually do some soccer.

“We have Michael Farfan, who is one of the younger players for the Union,” Humes added. “It’s nice to have a relationship with the Union and be able to do stuff like this.”

With pleasant weather, all the players and their families enjoyed the evening. “We have a ton of kids out tonight,” Humes said. “No coaching -- just play and have fun. Nothing stressful. Just enjoy it.”

On Wednesdays throughout the summer from 6:30 to 8, kids are invited to come out and enjoy the sport. To find out more, visit the Southern Chester County Soccer Association’s website at www.sccsasoccer.com.
