Hometown Hero Walk a success

Letter to the Editor:

What a great outpouring of support was shown for our active military and veterans this past Friday, June 14, Flag Day, in East Nottingham Township. We attended the second annual Hometown Hero Walk that originated at Nottingham School. It was a privilege to walk knowing that all the proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.  As we learned that evening, this two-mile local walk is part of a larger walk that crosses the state from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.  This PA Hero Walk is the largest fundraiser in the country for the Wounded Warriors, raising $200,000.  As Jane Ladley, supervisor of East Nottingham Township, announced, Friday’s walk proceeds should total $3,000. Walking with the Young Marines, Boy Scouts, and bagpipers was the best way we could think of to honor our troops on Flag Day.  Many residents along the route encouraged the walkers, including a woman who held a display of service medals for a family member. Thanks to all who organized and participated in this fundraiser.
