Nupur Parikh

Nupur Parikh recently signed a letter of intent to row with Drexel University, and she will be the coxswain for the Women's Varsity Crew team. At her signing, Nupur said, "I'm glad the recruiting process is over and that I found a team and school I love."

For more than three years, she rowed with the Newport Rowing Club in Newport, Del. In women's lightweight 4+ events, her team placed third in the Mid-Atlantic region and seventh overall at the Saratoga Invitational against the East Coast's stiffest competition for this event.

Nupur turned to rowing after breaking her foot twice playing soccer.  While her foot was in a cast, she attended a Newport Rowing Club open house and started rowing on the novice squad. Her favorite part of rowing is "feeling the anticipation of everyone on the course as we wait for the official to call the start," she said.

Nupur is a dedicated to her sport, academics, and caring for others. She practices rowing 18 hours each week.  At Kennett High School, she is a National Honor Society member, yearbook editor, and Reach Out into the Community member, assisting in a Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center classroom twice a week. Nupur also received an Excellence in World Languages award.

Nupur participates in the Indo American Association of Delaware's Youth Group. She was the group's president in 10th grade and raised $2,000 twice on behalf of the group for the Wilmington Firefighter's Holiday Fund and the Global Youth HELP in India.  She received community service awards from Wilmington County Council and Wilmington City Council for her efforts.

At Drexel, Nupur will major in international area studies with a concentration in justice and human rights. She is also considering law school.
