Art sessions for adults

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) offers four "Creative Escapes" for adults this summer from 7 to 9 p.m. Each evening begins with a guided gallery tour introducing the theme. Participants then create their own art. The schedule is: "Building Imagination" (June 19), focusing on the architecture of the museum building and ending with drawing angles and curves in the structure; "Landscape Inspiration" (July 17), with a tour of the exhibition "Rockwell Kent, Jamie Wyeth and Monhegan" and a landscape painting session with watercolor. 'American Masters'

Somerville Manning Gallery (101 Stone Block Row, Greenville, Del.) presents "American Masters: Art of the 19th-21st Centuries" through June 8. There will be original works by N.C. Children's art show

The Oxford Arts Alliance (38 S. Third St., Oxford) hosts an opening reception for a show of artwork by young students on June 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit www.oxfordart.org.

Joan Hollander solo show

Longwood Art Gallery (200 E. State St., Kennett Square) is hosting a solo show for local artist Joan Hollander during June. Her works focus on children at the beach, hunt scenes, florals and portraits of children. A reception will be held June 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. during the First Friday Art Stroll.  There will be wine and cheese, and live music by The Ladeens. The show runs through June 30. New paintings by three artists

Veronica Mauro  
The Avon Grove Library (117 Rosehill Ave., West Grove) will be hosting an art exhibit showcasing the works of Landenberg artist Veronica Mauro from June 8 to 15.There will be a reception on June 8 at 3 p.m. Mauro's work reflects places she has visited -- Venice and Sicily, Quebec, throughout the United States, and as close as Delaware's Brandywine Park. June 15 to Nov. 17

Rockwell Kent and Jamie Wyeth

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) opens "Rockwell Kent, Jamie Wyeth and Monhegan" on June 15. The exhibit features works by both artists that have been inspired by the small island off the coast of Maine. There will be examples of Kent's major works from museum collections, as well as the debut of a new painting by Wyeth. The exhibit continues through Nov. 17. June 24 to 27

'Advanced Explorers' at Brandywine

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) offers an "Advanced Explorers" program for ages 9 and older to experiment with sketching, painting, sculpting and making a print from June 24 to 27. The classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, and include guided museum tours, art projects and supplies. The fee is $50 per child. July 11 to Aug. 1

'Explorer Mornings' at Brandywine

The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) offers "Explorer Mornings" for ages 3 to 10, accompanied by an adult, from July 11 to Aug. 1. There will be sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Children get an interactive, guided tour of one or more museum galleries, followed by an art activity. Participants can come to one workshop or all four. Included in museum admission. The schedule is: "Cool Colors" (July 11); "Art and Nature" (July 18); "Animal Safari" (July 25); and "Who Am I?"
