Senior Expo
A Senior Expo with Dominic Pileggi (R9) will be held May 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Red Clay Room (423 Dalmation St., Kennett Square). There will be nearly 60 exhibitors from state, county and local agencies offering information on programs of interest to seniors. The Chester County Health Department will offer shingles vaccines for those 60 or older who are uninsured or who have insurance that doesn't cover the vaccine cost. There will also be free health screenings, nutrition tips and information on resources for seniors in Pennsylvania. The event is free. Music and polo
The “Friday Nights under the Stars” summer concert/polo series begins on May 31 at the Brandywine Polo Club fields (232 Polo Rd., Toughkenamon). There will be food, live music and polo matches beginning at 5:30 on Fridays. This season, $1 of every ticket goes to the Education Foundation of Unionville/Chadds Ford School District. Young adult theater

The West Chester Studio for the Performing Arts and the Uptown Entertainment Alliance present “Furry Tales,” a new take on fairy tales by Joel Doty, at 2 p.m. on June 1 and 2. “Middle Class & Second Class” by Brad Slaight will be performed on May 31 and June 1 at 7:30 p.m.  Both shows will be performed at the Chester County Historical Society (225 N. Airport open house
The New Garden Flying Field will host a free open house and antique car show on June 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain date June 2). Lancaster County tour
The Southern Lancaster County Historical Society’s Fourth Annual Southern End House and History Tour will take place on June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be 14 locations in Bart and Sadsbury townships and Christiana Borough, including historic churches, covered bridges, an early inn, a tin shop, an Underground Railroad Museum, a railroad freight station, as well as historic houses. Demonstrations will include rug braiding, tinsmithing and ballroom dancing. Underground Railroad lectures and the History of the Pennsylvania Railroad can be heard throughout the day. Home & Garden Day

On June 1, eight homes and gardens in the Kennett Square area, including two businesses, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the benefit of the Bayard Taylor Memorial Library’s children’s programs. Homes this year are located in Unionville. Local vendors will be providing foods and beverages and displaying flower arrangements at the homes, while artists will be painting in the gardens. Lunch will be available at Foxfire Restaurant at the Stone Barn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch tickets must be purchased in advance for $20. Tour tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance. Human trafficking meeting

ACE (Advocating, Collaborating, Educating) Anti-Human Trafficking Alliance of Oxford will meet on June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Oxford Public Library.  Member Jim Sumner will present material from a seminar in State College which he attended on behalf of ACE.  Following the presentation there will be an update on Senate Bills 75 and 915.  All community members are invited to attend.

'Broadway on the Brandywine'
Tickets are on sale for “Foundation Fest 2013: Broadway on The Brandywine,” the spring fundraiser for the Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Foundation. The June 1 event at Unionville High School will feature the best of Broadway as performed by Unionville-Chadds Ford School District students and alumni. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors.  Food will be sold before the show, along with “Candygrams” for performers. There will also be a raffle to win one of five iPad Minis. Raffle tickets can be purchased in advance in the main office of all Unionville-Chadds Ford schools. Bonsai show
The Brandywine River Museum (Route 1, Chadds Ford) hosts its annual bonsai show June 1 and 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In the museum courtyard. Members of the Brandywine Bonsai Society will demonstrate training techniques and answer questions regarding care of these miniuatur trees. On Saturday, the show is included with general museum admission ($12 for adults; $8 for seniors; $6 for students; free for children under 6). Basket bingo
The Union Fire Company (315 Market St., Oxford) will host a basket bingo with retired Longaberger baskets on June 2. Tree identification and letterboxing

On June 5 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Point Lookout Garden (3201 Montchanin Rd., Wilmington, Del.), participants can learn about letterboxing. Learn how, by following clues and documenting the features and measurements of the landscape, students have an adventure that promotes a sense of place. Cheese tasting
A cheese tasting with Tenaya Darlington of DiBruno Bros. and the blog Madame Fromage, and six Chester County cheese artisans, will be held June 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wyebrook Farm Market in Honey Brook. Participants can meet the farmers enjoy locally crafted cheeses. Participating farms include: Amazing Acres Farm, Birchrun Hills Farm, Conebella Farm, Doe Run Dairy, Shellbark Hollow Farm, and Yellow Springs Farm. A limited amount of cheese will be available for sale in the Wyebrook Farm Market and a small silent auction will also be held to benefit the cheese artisans’ cooperative marketing efforts. Trail clearing
Help is needed to clear trails at the Banffshire Preserve (Creek Road and Chesterville Road, Landenberg) on June 8 starting at 8 a.m. Bring tools such as loppers, rakes, hedge trimmers and chain saws, along with water and a snack. Hero Walk Parade
The Hometown PA Hero Walk Parade will be held on June 14 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the Oxford High School track at Hopewell School, with a patriotic program at 7 a.m., and the walk from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is $20, and each registrant will get a T-shirt. Book and bake sale
The Oxford Public Library (48 S. Second St., Oxford) will be having a book and bake sale on June 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will offer adult and children's hardcover and paperback titles, music CDs and DVDs. Anson B. Nixon Park concerts
The Anson B. Nixon Park Summer Concert Series returns in June and continues through the summer with free concerts at the bandshell. Driver safety program
The Kennett Area Senior Center (427 S. Walnut St., Kennett Square) sponsors an AARP Driver Safety Program for drivers age 50 and older on June 20 from noon to 4 p.m. The course is applicable for those who have previously completed the eight-hour course. The session explains the changes that occur in vision, hearing, and reaction time with aging, and provides tips for handling those changes. Summer Solstice celebration

On June 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Stateline Woods Preserve (814 Merrybell Lane, Kennett Square), The Land Conservancy will mark the changing of seasons and the longest day of the year. 'Paddling the Brandywine'

'Open Hive Day'
A program focusing on honeybees will be held June 29 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the New Leaf EcoCenter (776 Rosedale Rd., Kennett Square). Apiarist Dan Borkoski will give an inside look at the world of honeybees. Participants will get a close-up look at a hive during routine inspection, while gaining beekeeping knowledge. Brandywine Folk Festival
Anson B. Nixon park in Kennett Square will be the site of the second annual Brandywine Folk Festival on Aug. 23, 24 and 25.  The line-up includes nationally and regionally recognized names such as Good Old War, Secret Sisters, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Pearl & the Beard, Mischief Brew, Toy Soldiers, Mean Lady, Cheers Elephant and others. There will be food and craft vendors, carnival games and a beer garden. The event raises funds for autism awareness through SPARC.
