A new playground at Anson B. Nixon Park will be formally opened on June 2 at 1 p.m.

The 106-acre park in Kennett Square is opening the first phase of the playground after the Longwood Rotary Club stepped forward and named the playground as their signature project for 2013. With their  financial support, and a matching funds grant from GameTime, the equipment vendor, the equipment was installed the first weekend in April.

Volunteers worked for four days. The volunteers included current and former members of the Longwood Rotary Club, the WIN Program, the Technical College High School, Dansko, KAPA and the community.

The playground dedication is being held on the 20th anniversary of the opening of the park. There will be face painters and ice cream for all visitors. The rain date is June 9 at 1 p.m.

The park has an entertainment pavilion, restroom facilities, children’s playground, five pavilions with picnic tables, water and electricity, four walking trails, two sand and grass volleyball courts, two tennis courts, 18 holes of disc golf, and two ponds stocked for fishing.  The park is off of North Walnut Street in Kennett Square.
